on Top of the World 36” x 24” Acrylic 2004 |
Using a live model, I wanted to depict the face as realistic as possible. However, the rest of the painting diverges greatly from realism. I’ve made the hands disproportionately large, transformed the couch into a sort of moonlike structure, and paid little attention to the form of the body, deciding to let color dictate. |
The painting was produced completely by spatula. I had no idea what I was painting when the paint hit the canvas and I’m still not sure what I see when I look because it changes each time. While most people see a woman with a child, sometimes I see a woman about to bury her head on her shoulder, sometimes a bird hiding behind his wings. The list goes on. However, to me it gives the essence of life, hence its title. |
