Mystified

18” x 24”

Acrylic

2003

Monochromatic works have always interested me, and I wanted to see the effect of different blues.  I use pronounced outlines and an “exotic” subject.  The viewer has no idea what she is doing.  One must use his imagination.

After one of my favorite works was stolen in the beginning of 2004, it took me a while before I wanted to revisit her.  I was quite upset and couldn’t bring myself to create her again because just like a child, you can never recreate the same one.  With this understanding, I decided to duplicate the work but making sure it kept her individuality as well.  The figures are slightly different as are the colors.  But the principle is the same and the intensity remains.  The second version drove me to dig deep, resulting in a work that I’m proud of.  I also meddled in mixed media this time.  Enjoying the volume the cable wire brings to the piece.  Sometimes good things can come out of bad situations.
