A Little Bit of Rhythm 18” x 24” Acrylic 2003 |
I wanted to convey expression, whether it be in the face or in the movement. I use bright colors, which portray the dancer’s energy, while the background continues the sense of rhythm. I painted her after a night of dancing with friends. This is an example of how my art sometimes reflects my life. |
Another portrait of a dancer.
This one was done early in my short artistic career.
Instead of dancing, I’ve captured the moment before performing
where she battles her nerves. She
reminds me of my roommate who is a flamenco dancer in NY.
I use the contrast of green and red to highlight her inner fight
as a shy performer, an introvert who makes a living in the public
sphere. |
