Mural Project in San Martin Huamelulpam, Oaxaca, Mexico

I had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer in a small mountain town, San Martin Huamelulpam, in Oaxaca, Mexico, this summer with Amigos de las Americas.  My duties included teaching the children English, how to use digital cameras and computer technology, and how to collect data on their town, rich in culture and ancient ruins.  In addition, I helped translate into English the material in the community museum because the town was hoping to attract tourism.  My greatest project, however, was creating an 8' x 11' mural that is now on the highway at the entrance of the town.  With the help of my students, we presented a well-received present to the community that they all can take pride in for being part of the artistic process.
